The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation Appoints Vice President of Strategic Partnerships

Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) August 22, 2013

The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation announced the appointment of Michael Wood as Vice President of Strategic Partnerships. Wood, who comes to the Institute from United Way Worldwide, will oversee the management and cultivation of the Institutes strategic partnerships with an already wide variety of organizations.

The addition of Mike to our senior management team will enable the Institute to further leverage our partnerships with nationally networked organizations, said The Harwood Institutes Founder and President Rich Harwood. Mike is a seasoned and trusted executive with an extraordinary track record of delivering results. He possesses a deep understanding of the Institutes work and is uniquely qualified to drive our strategic direction with organizations creating meaningful change in communities across the country.

Wood joins the Institute at a time of exceptional growth and reach: The Institute has formed alliances with major nonprofits ranging from the American Library Association and United Way Worldwide to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Such groups have long collaborated with The Harwood Institute and adopted its practices. The Institute, based in Bethesda, Md., teaches and coaches people and organizations to solve pressing problems and change how communities work together.

Before coming to The Harwood Institute, Wood was Director of U.S. Network Engagement for United Way Worldwide, where he was responsible for overseeing the execution of the organizations relationship development strategy for its vast U.S. network of 1,200 local United Ways. He previously worked for The Harwood Institute managing projects and serving as the Institutes communications director. He also worked as an associate for the Kettering Foundation, was a consultant for non-governmental organizations and was involved in community and political organizing.

Wood holds two bachelors degrees from West Virginia University and a masters degree in political management from The George Washington University. Wood was also a Harry S Truman Scholar, one of 20 annual members of USA Todays Collegiate All-Academic First Team and Rhodes Scholar semi-finalist.

During my seven years at United Way, I had the good fortune of seeing from a different perspective how effective The Harwood Institutes content, tools and support can be in helping community-based organizations build credibility, align internally and externally and achieve greater impact, Wood said. I am extremely excited about working with organizations across the country to figure out how we can work together in creating more results for our communities.
